Porcelain Crowns & Bridges
If decay, cracks, or large fillings begin to weaken your tooth, a crown is necessary to ensure the tooth remains free of future problems. Visit Besma Dental Family Centre in Welland to get porcelain crowns matching with the shade of your existing teeth. Once a tooth has been lost, placing a bridge can prevent a chain reaction of problems that can affect your entire mouth.
When one tooth is lost, biting forces change and the teeth next to the space start shifting and the tooth above begins to extrude to fill the space below it. As your bite changes, you may damage the joint leading to TMJ causing pain. It is difficult to clean teeth that have shifted and can lead to a higher risk of developing cavities. We understand that a missing tooth can really change a person’s smile, but a bridge is an excellent way to bring your smile back.
Procedure for a Dental Crown or a Bridge
The entire process for a dental crown or bridge can be completed in two to three visits to our clinic. During the first visit, our dentist will reshape the teeth by filing down the enamel so that the crown or bridge can be placed over it. After the completion of this process, a mold of that tooth and the surrounding area is taken. Further, the mold is sent to the lab to be custom made for you. Before leaving our clinic, our dentist will place a temporary crown or bridge until your permanent one is ready.
Generally, a crown or a bridge is fabricated and returned to our office in two weeks. In your next appointment, our dentist will make slight adjustments so that the crown or bridge is cemented in place. Crowns or bridges are durable and will last for years. You should take care of them as you would do for your other teeth with regular flossing and brushing. Call us to book an appointment.
