Nitrous Oxide Sedation
At Besma Dental Family Centre in Welland, we understand that every dental treatment is not simple and smooth because of which laughing gas is required. The use of nitrous oxide sedation reduces the sensation of pain, which can be helpful for dentists during crown or tooth removal. Dr. Rashid is experienced in easing nervous patients back into dentistry. Laughing gas is a unique dental sedation technique as it works quickly and wears off once you stop inhaling it.
What Is Laughing Gas?
Nitrous oxide sedation, commonly known as laughing gas, is a safe and effective agent mixed with oxygen used to make you more comfortable during dental procedures. This gas is colourless and odourless. So generally, dentists add pleasant scents like vanilla to the gas especially while treating kids. The common mix of gas for a dental treatment is 30% oxygen and 70% nitrous oxide. This combination can vary if required to get the desired sedation effect.
Few Side Effects of Using Laughing Gas
Nausea or vomiting
Once the nitrous oxide has been turned off, a patient should inhale sufficient oxygen for at least five minutes to avoid a headache. For kids, laughing gas is not only safe but also a preferred sedation method.
